I spent Saturday afternoon with 250 women at the NWR conference in Birmingham. I was the only man in the room, and they let me talk about books. For those of you who have met me you'll know it's not difficult to get me to do that but they listened very attentively and even joined in. In fact, they also sang - and they're good at it plus they know all the words.

It's always flattering when people come up afterwards and ask for a book title or author's name they weren't able to scribble down as I raced on to the next book. I always feel I've managed to encourage somebody else to try a book I've enjoyed - which isn't a bad thing to do, is it?

A friend was at the conference, and was impressed both by your talk and the free books. The idea of asking people to take away one book they liked the look of, and one that they did not, was inspired!
