Too late for us to get it on the page but Ruth Smith of Leeds has just sent us this:

After Flodden

Rosemary Goring (Author)

'After Flodden' is Rosemary Goring's debut novel and although I am never usually attracted to historical novels, I was very impressed by this intense and thrilling book. It is obvious that this book has been meticulously researched and there is a vivid sense of place and time. I read the list of characters with apprehension and wondered if I would ever be able to sort them out but because each character is so well drawn, there was no confusion. One is immediately sympathetic with Louise, the principal character although Paniter, Adam Crozier, Gabriel and even minor individuals are vibrant if rather less endearing. There would be many topics for a reading group to discuss in this novel and I would love to read more books by this author. I learned a lot about the dangerous and brutal time in which this novel is set, a period about which I previously knew very little, and it has changed my mind about historical fiction.
